Princess of Asturias Awards
The Princess of Asturias Awards are a series of prizes given by the Spain-based Princess of Asturias Foundation to individuals, entities or organisations from across the world for their noteworthy contributions in the fields of science, humanities and public affairs. These awards are conferred every October by the next heir to the throne of Spain.
Recently, Indian economist and Nobel Laureate Amartya Kumar Sen received the Princess of Asturias Awards in the social sciences category for his research on famines and his hypothesis on human development, welfare economics and the underlying mechanisms of poverty.
