President Aleksandar Vucic’s SNS-led Coalition registers landslide win in 2020 Parliamentary Election

Since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in March 2020, Serbia on 21st June 2020 became the first country to conduct National Elections in Europe. The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) coalition, under the leadership of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic registered one of the largest parliamentary majorities in Europe by winning 191 of the total 250 seats in the Parliament.

Elections were conducted across 8,253 polling stations in Serbia and also in 140 polling stations of Kosovo (Serbia does not recognize Kosovo as an Independent Country) where people of Serbian Community live.

The 2020 Parliamentary Elections of Siberia was initially scheduled to be conducted in the month of April but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The election was largely surrounded by controversies some of the opposition parties boycotted the elections. These parties have accused President Vucic of having complete control over the media as a result of which the votes won’t be free and fair.

Ana Brnabic (First female Prime Minister of Serbia) is the incumbent Prime Minister of Serbia. She became the Prime Minister in 2017 after President Aleksandar Vucic proposed her name.

The Parliament of Siberia (also known as the National Assembly of Siberia) has a unicameral legislature. The Prime Minister of Siberia is elected and appointed by the 250 elected members of the National Assembly. The President of Siberia has the power to propose the name of an individual to the National Assembly for the post of the Prime Minister.
