Praveen Rashtrapal (76), an Indian National Congress (INC) leader and a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat, has recently passed away in New Delhi . Following his demise, Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on May 12, 2016. He was a distinguished Parliamentarian, a noted trade unionist and a dedicated social worker. Rashtrapal was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha (1999-2004) and was a member from the Upper House from April 2006 to April 2012 and was re-elected in April 2012. He was the Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax and was also associated with the trade union movement of Income Tax employees.
