The theme of the event is – Engaging Diaspora – Connecting across Generations– with a special focus on the younger generation.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas:
India celebrated Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 9 every year to commemorate the contribution of Indian diaspora overseas in the development of India. January 9 was specifically chosen since it was on this day in 1915 Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest Pravasi, returned to India from South Africa and led India’s freedom struggle and transformed the lives of Indians forever.
Indian government has been holding this convention every year since 2003. The convention provides a special platform for overseas Indians to interact among themselves and with the Government of India and the Governments of various Indian States. It is a forum where the Government of India showcases investment opportunities in India and its potential in various sectors.
