Pratibha Ray to get 2011 Jnanpith Award
Pratibha Ray who is a famous Oriya novelist has been chosen for the prestigious Jnanpith award for the year 2011 in recognition to her contribution to the field of Indian literature. She will be the fourth Oriya author to get the award. Previously, the honor was conferred on Gopinath Mohanty (1973), Sachidananda Routray (1986) and Sitakant Mohapatra (1993).
Some of her applauded works:
- Her first novel Barsa Basanta Baishakha in 1974
- Aranya
- Aparichita, (a film was made and won Best Film-Story award from the state government)
- Shilapadma (won her the Orissa Sahitya Academy Award)
- Yajnaseni (won her the Moorti Devi Award in 1991 and Sarala Award in 1990)
