Pragati Maidan Convention Centre

The redevelopment of the Pragati Maidan convention centre has been a significant undertaking, and it is now set to host its first major event since its reconstruction. This venue will soon witness the NITI Aayog’s 8th governing council meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting will be centered around the theme ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047: Role of Team India.’

Ownership and Construction Involvement

The Pragati Maidan site is owned by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). The responsibility for its redevelopment has been entrusted to the state-owned construction company, NBCC (India) Ltd. This massive undertaking began in 2017, with the demolition of existing structures, including the iconic Hall of Nations, a symbol of architectural brilliance designed by renowned architect Raj Rewal to commemorate 25 years of Indian Independence.

Redevelopment Project Highlights

The redevelopment project encompasses the construction of various state-of-the-art facilities. The centerpiece is the convention-cum-exhibition centre, complemented by six exhibition halls, an administration block, and an amphitheatre with a seating capacity of 3,000 people. These infrastructural additions aim to transform Pragati Maidan into a modern and versatile venue capable of hosting high-profile events.

G20 Summit and NITI Aayog Meeting

The elliptic-shaped convention centre, now fully prepared, will not only host the NITI Aayog meeting but will also serve as the venue for the highly anticipated G20 summit scheduled for September 9-10. The NITI Aayog meeting, with its diverse agenda covering themes like Viksit Bharat @ 2047, MSMEs, infrastructure and investments, minimising compliances, women’s empowerment, health and nutrition, skill development, and Gati Shakti for area development and social infrastructure, will serve as a rehearsal for the G20 Summit.

A Pragati Maidan Transformed

The redeveloped Pragati Maidan convention centre stands as a symbol of India’s commitment to modernity and progress. With its revamped infrastructure and enhanced capabilities, it is poised to become a premier destination for hosting major events and conferences. As the NITI Aayog meeting approaches and the G20 Summit looms on the horizon, all eyes are on Pragati Maidan, a testament to India’s unwavering pursuit of excellence in the field of diplomacy and global engagement.
