The Pradhan Mantri Swasth Bharat Yojana was launched in February 2021. The main aim of the scheme is to address the health issues in a holistic way.
About Pradhan Mantri Swasth Bharat Yojana
The scheme was announced in 2021-22 Union budget. The main objective of the scheme is to develop secondary and tertiary health care systems. Also, it aims to develop modern ecosystem combining testing, research and treatment. The scheme is to be implemented in 6 years. The outlay of the scheme is around Rs 64, 180 crores.
Strategy
The scheme adopts four-pronged strategy. They are as follows:
- To prevent illness and promotion of wellness. This includes yoga, and other measures under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and also treatment of children and pregnant women
- To provide cheap and quality treatment to the poor
- To increase the health infrastructure and its quality
- To overcome obstacles
Objectives
The main objectives of the scheme are as follows:
- To support development of 11, 024 urban and 17,788 rural health and wellness centres in the country.
- To set up integrated public health labs
- To establish critical care hospitals in 12 central institutions and 602 hospitals
- To strengthen National Centre for Disease Control
- To expand Integrated Health Information Portal
- To roll out the COVID-10 vaccination programme
- To combat future pandemics
