Popular Tamil director R.C Sakthi passes away
Popular Tamil director R.C Sakthi passed away in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was 76.
He was mentor of famous actor Kamal Haasan and had launched him as lead role in his Tamil directorial debut Unarchigal in 1972.
About R.C Sakthi
- Sakthi was born in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu.
- He had started his career in film industry as a theatre artist and later shifted to cinema.
- In his two decade long career, he had directed 17 films. He began his directorial career as an assistant director for the Tamil films Porsilai (1969) and Annai Velankanni (1970).
- Later in 1972, in directorial debut he launched Kamal Haasan in Unarchigal. It was released in 1976.
- Later in his career, he directed many films. Some of his critically acclaimed films are Manidharil Ithanai Nirangala (1978), Dharma Yuddham (1979) which starred Rajinikanth and Amma Pillai (1990).
- His last directed Tamil film Pathini Penna (1993) has been awarded two Tamil Nadu state awards. They are Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Film and State award for Best Dialogue Writer.
