PMMVY awards: Madhya Pradesh wins; Manipur won among NE states

On February 3, 2020, the Ministry of Women and Child Development awarded Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandhana Yojana (PMMVY) awards to states and Union Territories and Districts. The award function was organized to promote competitive federalism among the states.

The Awards were presented under three categories namely best performance since inception,

Highlights: Best Performance since inception

Under this, in the category of more than 1 crore population, Madhya Pradesh bagged the award followed by Andhra Pradesh and Haryana at second and third position respectively.

In the Category of States and Union Territories with population less than 1 crore Dadra and Nagar Haveli bagged the award following Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh at second and third positions respectively.

In the category of states and UTs with population more than 1 crore, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh stood at first, second and third places respectively.

In the category of states and UTs with population less than 1 crore, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Sikkim and Manipur bagged the first, second and third places respectively.

PMMVY

The PMMVY has so far benefitted 1.28 crore beneficiaries. It has transferred Rs 5280 crores through Direct Benefit Transfer scheme.

The PMMVY is a maternity benefit programme launched in 2017. Under the programme, cash of Rs 5000 is provided to pregnant women and lactating mothers.
