PM to Launch High-Throughput COVID 19 Testing Facilities
In a bid to ramp up testing in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to launch three high-throughput COVOD 19 testing facilities so that more cases can be detected through intensive testing. These facilities have been set up at ICMR – National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, Noida, ICMR – National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai and ICMR – National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, Kolkata.
These three centres are expected to cover 10,000 samples each in a day. They will also reduce the total turnaround time and exposure of lab personnel to infectious clinical materials. These labs will be able to handle other diseases such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, Dengue, Chlamydia, Neisseria, etc.
The overall objective is to strengthen the early detection of the disease in the country and treatment, assisting in controlling the spread of the pandemic in the country.
