PM SVANidhi Scheme: API Integration with SBI Portal

On October 7, 2020 Government of India launched the API (Application Programming Integration) between State Bank of India portal and PM SVANidhi Portal.

Highlights

In simple terms, action programming interface is the connection between two or more applications that allows them to to exchange data. Here in the new application programming interface established by the the ministry of housing and urban affairs will facilitate data flow between SBI portal and PM SVANidhi Portal. The integration will expedite loan sanctioning and will secure the payment environment.

Background

Recently the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the private firm Swiggy in order to take the the street food vendors online. This was launched in five major cities such as Ahmedabad, Chennai, Indore, Delhi and Varanasi. In the first phase around 250 vendors are to be taken on board. Upon its success the platform will be opened to 50 lakh Street vendors spread all over the country.

PM SVANidhi Yojana

The scheme was launched in 2020 under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to provide capital loan of Rs 10000 to the street vendors. The capital amount is to be extended to Rs 20000 for the vendors who repay the installment on time.

The scheme is to be operated till March 2022.

 Significance

The lockdown imposed due to covid-19 disrupted the lives and livelihoods of many daily wages. Of these the street vendors were the the most affected. The street vendors usually work with the small capital base. And these capital are drawn from informal sources at high interest rate. The lockdown might have consumed their savings and affected their businesses. There was an urgent need to make credit available to these working population through formal banking.

The PM SVANidhi scheme was launched to help the street vendors resume their business.

Swiggy

Swiggy is is the largest and highest valued online food ordering platform in India. It was founded in 2014. It is operating in hundred cities currently. It is an Indian company headquartered at Bangalore.
