The scheme has recorded demand for solar systems, particularly those with a 3-5 kW load, which constitute 77% of installations. Systems exceeding 5 kW account for 14% of the total. Gujarat leads in installations with 2,86,545, followed by Maharashtra with 1,26,344 and Uttar Pradesh with 53,423. Other states like Tripura, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur are also contributing to the increasing numbers.

Registration and Target

To date, approximately 1.45 crore registrations have been completed under the scheme. The primary goal is to provide solar power to one crore households by March 2027. The initiative has a budget allocation of Rs 75,021 crore and aims for a total of one crore rooftop solar installations by the target date.

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is designed to alleviate electricity bills, enhance household income, and generate job opportunities. It is estimated that the programme could save the government Rs 75,000 crore annually in electricity expenses. The scheme offers a subsidy of up to 40%, making solar energy more accessible to households.

The government is collaborating with various stakeholders, including REC, DISCOMs, and vendors, to ensure the scheme’s effectiveness.
