PM Modi inaugurates Integrated Check Post at Kartarpur Corridor
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Integrated Check Post (ICP) of Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur in Punjab. Moeover, the first Jatha of Sikh pilgrims also entered Pakistan through Kartarpur Corridor. Earlier, PM Modi also flagged off the first batch of over 500 Indian pilgrims led by Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib via corridor.
About ICP at Kartarpur Corridor
Objective: The rationale behind the establishment of ICP is to secure country’s borders while facilitating legitimate trade and commerce.
Facilities Provided: ICPs house all regulatory agencies such as Immigration, Customs, border security, among others, together with all support facilities like parking, warehousing, banking, hotels etc. in a single complex. The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) is the implementing agency.
Background: To celebrate the historic occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Devji in the year 2019, India has signed an agreement with Pakistan on 24 October 2019, on the modalities and formal framework for operationalisation of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor at Zero Point, International Boundary, Dera Baba Nanak. The ICP would thus facilitate, Indian Piligrims to visit to Gurudwara Kartapur Sahib in Pakistan.
About Kartarpur corridor
It connects Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur, Punjab in India to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Narowal, Pakistan. Kartarpur Gurdwara is known as the the final resting place of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikh faith. It is located on the banks of river Ravi and is just over 4 km from Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab.
