PM inaugurates Development Projects in Odisha

On 5th March 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation multiple development projects worth over Rs 19,600 crores in Chandikhole, Jajpur district of Odisha. The projects span across various sectors including oil & gas, railways, road, transport & highways, and atomic energy.
During the ceremony Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significance of these mega development projects in boosting industrial activities in the region and creating new employment opportunities..

Key Projects Inaugurated

1. 344 km long product pipeline from Paradip, Odisha to Haldia, West Bengal.
2. Indian Oil Corporation Limited Mono Ethylene Glycol project in Paradip Refinery.
3. 0.6 MMTPA LPG Import facility at Paradip, expected to revolutionize the polyester industry in Eastern India and provide raw materials to the textile parks in Bhadrak and Paradip.

Other Projects

1. Four laning of various sections of national highways: Singhara to Binjabahal (NH-49), Binjabahal to Tileibani (NH-49), Balasore-Jharpokharia (NH-18), and Tangi-Bhubaneswar (NH-16)
2. Foundation stone for eight laning of Chandikhole – Paradip Section at Chandikhole
3. Dedication of 162 Km Bansapani – Daitari – Tomka – Jakhapura Rail Line to enhance traffic capacity and facilitate efficient transportation of iron and manganese ore
4. Inauguration of CONCOR Container Depot in Kalinga Nagar to boost domestic and international trade
5. Foundation stone for Electric Loco Periodical Overhauling Workshop at Narla, Wagon Periodical Overhauling Workshop at Kantabanji, and upgradation and augmentation of maintenance facilities at Baghuapal
6. Flagging off of new train services
7. Inauguration of a 5 MLD capacity seawater desalination plant at Odisha Sands Complex of IREL(I) Ltd., built as a part of field applications of indigenous desalination technologies developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre

Enhancing Energy Sector Capabilities in Eastern States

The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s efforts in enhancing the capabilities of the Eastern states in the energy sector. Under the Urja Ganaga Yojana, major projects are underway for the supply of natural gas in five big states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha.

Changing Work Culture and Timely Completion of Projects

Prime Minister Modi commented on India’s commitment to timely completion of capital-intensive projects and focus on capital expenditure. The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s focus on modern connectivity in Odisha to boost the state’s economy through local resources. He mentioned the desalination plant in Ganjam district, which will treat almost 50 lakh litres of saline water every day and make it suitable for drinking.
