Pilot project for Skilling tribal youth

The pilot project for skilling tribal youth was launched by the Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

How many people will be trained under the project?

Under the pilot project, around 250 beneficiaries of 17 clusters of 17 districts selected from six states will be trained.

Which are the six states selected for the pilot project?

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

In what disciplines training will be provided to the beneficiaries?

Training under the pilot project will be provided in five disciplines (multiskilling):

  1. Electrical and solar energy
  2. Agricultural mechanization
  3. e-governance
  4. Plumbing and masonry
  5. Two-wheeler repair and maintenance.

How will the training help the youth?

Training under the above five disciplines will help tribal youth establish their own business and create employment opportunities for other youth in their locality.

Why skilling is important for India?

Skilling youth became important, especially in post COVID era. Skilling its youth will enable India to become Global Skills Hub and reap the demographic dividend. Skilling will create more livelihood opportunities for youth in tribal areas, strengthening local economies and enabling inclusive development. This also reduces regional imbalances and uneven development in India.

What are the schemes under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship?

Some of the schemes under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) include Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS), Jan Sikhshan Sansthan (JSS), etc.
