Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homeopathy to be re-established
On June 3rd, it was decided in a meeting of Union Cabinet to re-establish Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H) as Subordinate Office under Ministry of AYUSH. Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy, that came into existence in 2010, functions as an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH.
The re-establishment is to be done through the merger of the Pharmacopoeia Commission with the Pharmacopoeia Laboratory for Indian Medicine (PLIM) and Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory (HPL), which were established in 1975 in Ghaziabad as central laboratories.
The decision has been taken for following reasons-
- To standardize Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy drugs through effective regulations and quality control.
- To facilitate optimal utilization of infrastructural and financial resources, along with technical power for the standardization of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy drugs.
- To increase the capacity of the pharmacopoieal work.
