Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) to be Integrated into DIKSHA

The National eGovernance Division (NeGD), part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), is planning to integrate Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) into the existing Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (DIKSHA) platform.

PAL employs AI-driven software to provide tailored learning experiences to students based on their individual needs and abilities. DIKSHA, under the Ministry of Education, offers e-content to schools through an online portal and mobile app. Despite its usefulness, DIKSHA lacks dynamic content. The integration of PAL aims to enhance learning outcomes by identifying gaps and looping students back to foundational concepts.

How does PAL work to support students in their learning journey?

PAL employs AI to monitor student progress and identify areas of difficulty. For instance, if a student makes a mistake in a calculation, the system detects it and redirects the student to relevant foundational content, ensuring a better understanding of the concept.

What is the significance of categorizing and tagging content for PAL?

To create effective learning loops and provide targeted support, educational content needs to be categorized and tagged. This tagging allows the AI system to identify specific areas of difficulty and offer relevant explanations, fostering a more personalized learning experience.

Why is the Ministry of Education keen on implementing PAL for difficult subjects?

The Ministry of Education intends to begin PAL implementation for challenging subjects like Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics for Classes 9 to 12. By focusing on these subjects, the initiative aims to improve learning outcomes and school retention rates, addressing the issue of dropouts after Class 10.

What challenges have states faced in implementing PAL?

States like Assam and Haryana have faced budget constraints when implementing PAL. While Assam discontinued the project due to funding issues, Haryana found the streaming costs for content to be prohibitively high, leading to a standstill in the adoption process.

How does MeitY plan to enhance DIKSHA 2.0 with voice commands?

MeitY is considering the introduction of voice commands in DIKSHA 2.0 to enable students to access chapter summaries and other features through spoken instructions. This AI-enabled feature aims to make learning more accessible and user-friendly.
