Passenger Train services partially restored
On May 12, 2020, the Indian Railways partially begins passenger train services. Around 15 trains are to be operated. These trains are in addition to the “Shramik special trains” that are in service transporting migrant workers.
Highlights
Only confirmed ticket holders will be allowed to board the train. The passengers should observe social distancing throughout their journey. They have to reach the station at least 90 minutes in advance and undergo thermal screening. Only asymptomatic passengers are allowed to travel. The trains will have only first, second and third AC coaches. No Linen will be provided in the AC coaches. Also, the travelers have to carry their own food.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has provided guidelines to transport the passengers.
Shramik Trains
The Shramik Trains are those trains that carried the migrant workers. So far, the Indian Railways has operated 366 Shramik trains transporting 400,000 migrants. Initially, the GoI allowed only 1200 persons to travel in a train. The number has now been increased to 1700.
