Parakram Diwas – Netaji Jayanti
Every year India celebrates the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on January 23. Netaji founded the Azad Hind movement and led Azad Hind Fouj (Indian National Army). Netaji was born in Odisha and studied in Bengal, yet his presence was in several other states as well. States such as Tripura, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam adhere to an official holiday. There were several issues around celebrating Parakram Diwas. The Forward Block demanded to celebrate his birth anniversary as “Deshprem Divas”, meaning Day of Patriotism. The West Bengal Chief Minister wanted to declare it a national holiday and celebrate the day as the Desh Nayak Divas, meaning the Day of National Hero. However, the Government of India, in 2021 decided to celebrate the day as Parakram Diwas.
