Pak PM approves financial plan for Diamer-Basha Dam project in PoK

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan has given his approval for the financial plan of 4500 megawatt Diamer-Basha Dam project to be built over Indus river in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).  Sharif has also urged the officials concerned to speeden the construction of the dam. The dam is slated to come up in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district.

The financial proposal was prepared by Mohammad Younus Dagha who is the Minister for Water and Power. Dagha has been asked to complete all the financial procedures and begin the construction before end of 2017. As per the financial plan the dam will get the desired funding from allocations of the Public Sector Development Programme and the resources made by Water and Power Development Authority. The remaining financing of the project will be supported by leasing of the existing projects through Ministry of Water and Power.

Diamer-Dasha dam is expected to provide 8.1 million acre-feet of the gross storage out of  which 6.4 MAF will be live storage.
