Operation Sunrise 2
The Indian Army in coordination with the Army of Myanmar undertook a targeted operation, named Operation Sunrise 2 against several terrorist groups in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam. The first phase of “Operation Sunrise” was conducted in the month of February along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Several camps of insurgent groups were destroyed during the operation. As per the sources from the Ministry of Defence, at least six dozen militants belonging to various groups were nabbed and several camps were destroyed during the operation. The clamping down of these insurgent groups will be of great aid in facilitating the Kaladan multi-modal transit transport project.
Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project
The Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project aims to enhance the connectivity with the North-East by providing an alternate route bypassing chicken neck corridor. The alternate route connects seaport of Kolkata with Sittwe seaport in Rakhine State, Myanmar by sea. It will then link Sittwe seaport to Paletwa in Chin State via the Kaladan riverboat route, and then from Paletwa by road to Mizoram state in Northeast India.
