Operation Red Rose

The Operation Red Rose was launched by the Punjab Excise Department. The main objective of the operation was to curb illicit liquor trading. It also aims to nail excise related crimes. It was launched in 2020. The operation is a huge success.

About Operation Red Rose

The Punjab Excise Department busted an illegal bottling plant at Rajpura (Patiala district) using GPS technology. The Punjab state has made it mandatory for the transporters of Extra Neutral Alcohol to install GPS systems in their vehicles. On December 12, 2020, the control room set up for the operation caught a tanker carrying 20,000 litres of Extra Neutral Alcohol. The officers rushed and found an illegal bottling plant in Rajpura. This paved way for the success of the operation. After this, the conviction rate of the operation increased. The main aim of the operation is to ensure that there should not be any illegal movement of liquor in Punjab.

Importance

The illegal liquor in the state is reducing the state government revenue. In 2019, the revenue from liquor to the state government was Rs 5,118 crores. With the operation, it is expected to increase to Rs 7,000 crores in 2021.
