Operation Dost
Turkey was hit by a 7.8 Ritcher earthquake recently. The earthquake caused severe damage to the people and was catastrophic. To help the people of Turkey, India launched Operation Dost. Dost in Hindi means friend. Turkey welcomed India’s moves. The C17 Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force has been deployed in the operation.
Significance
During tough times, India remembers Turkey’s help. In 2021, when India was highly affected by COVID, Turkey sent two aircraft full of COVID medicines. It is India’s turn to help its friend and therefore Operation Dost.
What did India send?
The aircraft is carrying medicines, relief materials, NDRF teams, etc. The aircraft started its journey from the Hindon Air Base in India. It operates under the Western Command and is located in Ghaziabad, UP. It is the largest air base in Asia.
The Turkey Earthquake
Turkey is located in a seismically active zone. The earthquake occurred as the Arabian plate and the African plate moved against the Eurasian plate. Turkey is located at the tri-junction point where all these three plates meet. Therefore, seismic activities are high. After the earthquake, the country faced more than 60 shocks. This is strange. Usually, the aftershocks are less in magnitude. However, during this earthquake, the aftershocks were of the magnitude of mini earthquakes!
