Odisha’s Kulda coal mine

Kulda opencast coal mine is part of the Ib valley coal mines. It is located in Odisha. The Union Environment Ministry’s expert appraisal committee recommended environmental clearance for the 20% expansion of this mine. This comes despite the opposition from the residents in this region as it is expected to adversely impact health, agriculture and water bodies. With the expansion, the mine’s output will be raised to 19.60 million tonnes per annum.
