October 12: World Arthritis Day
The World Arthritis Day is observed on October 12, each year in a bid to raise awareness regarding the joint diseases which causes suffering from pain and stiffness.

- According to European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR), there are various types of Arthritis and an estimated one-hundred million people are undiagnosed.
- These people try to cope with symptoms which are often overlooked.
Should Arthritis Patients Exercise?
Many of the Arthritis patients are not very enthusiastic regarding exercising due to acute pain at the joints. But inactive life and no exercise worsen the joint diseases. But they should do moderate exercises in order to ease the pain and maintain a healthy weight.
Who are prone to this disease?
Although arthritis is usually associated with old age. But even youngsters are prone to the joint diseases. The condition of joint diseases is known as Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) among children. JIA is characterized by a number of disorders like pain in joints, stiffness and swollen joints.
How to diagnose JIA?
JIA can be diagnosed by any physician by considering the family history of arthritis, examining the symptoms, and by conducting a physical examination. In few cases, X-rays are and blood tests for anaemia, inflammation & autoimmune diseases are conducted.
What leads to Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis?
Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which body’s immune system attacks the joints mistaking them for germs. This leads to inflammation of joints. Causes for this condition is not known yet. However, in some cases, it is said to be genetic.
