Obama spells strategy to counter ISIS
US President Barack Obama has unveiled his strategy to counter the brutal militant group ISIS which has lately ruthlessly two American journalists. In a nationally telecast address, the President committed to degrade and ultimately destroy the ISIS.
“I have made it clear that we will hunt down terrorists who threaten our country, wherever they are,” “That means I will not hesitate to take action against ISIL in Syria, as well as Iraq. This is a core principle of my presidency: if you threaten America, you will find no safe haven,” he said. The plan covers increased air-strikes in Iraq and also across the border in Syria to wipe out the Sunni jihadists in the region.
The plan also proposed to send 475 American military advisers to Iraq to study and monitor the operations there. President however, clarified that there won’t be any combat troops being sent to Iraq but will America will lead a broad coalition to counter the terrorists.
The effort will be steady, relentless and will continue to take on ISIL wherever they exist using the air-force and intelligence. This will also involve on-ground support by the partner forces in Iraq. He also sent a $25million military aid to Iraqi and Kurdish forces fighting in the northern Iraq combating ISIS militants. The aid could include ammunition, small arms and vehicles, as well as military education and training.
Secretary of State John Kerry also reached the troubled soils to push Sunni leaders in Jordan and Saudi Arabia to join hands with the United States and its allies in the operation which may continue for longer than expected. He also met Iraqi PM and President to chalk out the strategy to move forward.
