NTPC Ltd, Indian Oil and SDMC signs MoU for Waste to Energy Plant in Delhi
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 30th June 2020 for setting up of a Waste to Energy Plant. The Waste to Energy Plant will be set up at Delhi’s Okhla. The MoU was signed between South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and two Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking’s (PSUs) Indian Oil and NTPC Limited.
In Delhi, Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Management has been a major issue for the local Municipal Authorities, the Waste to Energy Plant will help in addressing the issue and also will lead us towards a more energy-efficient and greener future.
The problem of Solid Municipal Waste in TIER II and TIER III cities of the country has been increasing from day-to-day. The Plant in Delhi will serve as a demonstrative model, the success of which will further help in establishing such Plants in other cities of the country.
About the Waste to Energy Plant
Gasification Technology will be used in the Waste to Energy Plant that will have the capacity to process 17500 tons of RDF-Refuse Derived Fuel per annum. From combustible components of Municipal Waste, RDF is produced. Through Gasification Technology, this RDF will be used for the production of Syngas. Syngas will be further used to generate electricity by using it in reciprocating engines or turbines.
