Not possible to put a uniform cap on COVID-19 treatment expenses: SC
The apex court has ruled that it is not willing to decide on a uniform rate for the treatment of the COVID 19 disease in the country. However, the court has also asserted that no individual should be denied treatment due to the exorbitant rates in the hospitals.
Why this case?
A petition was filed by Advocate Sachin Jain to regulate the expenses incurred on COVID 19 treatment in various hospitals. It was cited that the private hospitals were charging as per their whims and fancies to exploit the patients in these difficult times. The central government has responded that the government has already constituted a committee and is in the process of looking into it. The court has observed that medical expenses vary from one state to another and it is not possible to lay down a uniform structure for all the states.
