North Korea rocket launch violation of Security Council resolution: Ban Ki Moon

North Korea’s move which successfully placed a satellite into orbit after launching a long-range rocket again incited regional tensions and was condemned by neighbors as a provocative missile-test. It is for the second time in 2012 when the country attempted this under the rule of Kim Jong-un, who came to power following the death of his father Kim Jong-il. The first attempt was a failure.

The test has also been condemned by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who described it a clear violation of the 2009 resolution that banned the North from carrying out tests using ballistic missile technology.

South Korea and Japan have become tensed as they say the test is a disguised missile test for a long range missile which trespasses Security Council resolutions.
