North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy inaugurated at Shillong
Union Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Yesso Naik has formally inaugurated the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy (NEIAH) as an autonomous Institute under Ministry of AYUSH at Shillong. The institute is the second Ayurvedic College in the North East Region with a Homeopathy college and the only Central Academic Institute of Ministry of AYUSH. The objective of the ministry is to generate employment and good quality medical graduates in traditional medicine in the North Eastern region. Apart from this, the NEIAH also aims to provide alternative health care to people of the north-eastern region and Sikkim and produce quality human resource particularly in Ayurveda and homeopathy along with yoga.
The institute has started functioning from the academic session 2016-17 with one College of Ayurveda and one College of Homeopathy. The present 60-bed ayurvedic hospital will be later upgraded to 100 beds. Similarly, the 20-bed homeopathy hospital will be converted into a 50-bed hospital. Currently, 96 students from the region are pursuing the first year Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery at the institute.
