North East MSME Conclave
The North East Conclave of 2021 was organised by the Ministry of MSME. It was held in Guwahati.
What is the significance of North East MSME Conclave?
There are six crore MSME units in the North East. Together they employ more than 11 crore people. And they contribute more than 30% of GDP to the country and 49% of overall exports from India. Thus, the MSME in the north east has significant role in the development of Indian economy.
What are the benefits of North East MSME Conclave?
- The North East MSME Conclave encourages entrepreneurship. It increases competitiveness.
- The conclave will help in bringing understanding about the schemes implemented by the Ministry of MSME in the north east.
- It will help to initiate dialogues among the state governments in the region. Eventually this will help in better planning and execution of policies.

What is the role of Sikkim in the conclave?
There are 1087 MSME units in the state of Sikkim. These are registered in the Udyam portal. Sikkim is governed under Article 371F of Constitution. The Government of India has lately pursued several legislative and executive actions to fulfil the requirements of the state in accordance to the article. Because of this, Sikkim is now the leading performer in the region, especially in pharmaceuticals, handicrafts, food processing units, handlooms, handicrafts, organic agro produce, horticultural crops, spices, ginger, etc. Thus, participation of Sikkim will improve the competitive spirit of other states. Hence, Sikkim had a major role in the conclave.
