Nordlink
The recently inaugurated Nordlink is an undersea cable that directly connects the electricity networks of Germany and Norway through the North Sea. This 2.4 billion USD worth project will enable Germany to export the surplus electricity sourced from its wind parks to Norway. This transferred energy is stored in Norway’s hydropower reservoirs. The electricity from these reservoirs are transferred to Germany when there the wind is insufficient.
The development of this 623 km long cable is seen as Europe’s critical step towards renewable energy transition. It is expected to help bring down the power cost in Germany, which is costlier than many of the other European nations.
