Nokia unable to resist Android Technology for long, lastly adopts it with Nokia-X, to remain in Competition

Screenshot_2The Finnish handset maker Nokia launched its first Android-based smart phone, the Nokia X in India at Rs.8, 599. The Nokia X handset comes with 4GB of in-built storage, and can be expanded up to 32 GB via micro SD card.
Nokia X

  • Run on the new Nokia X software platform i.e. based on Google’s Android.
  • Based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and is powered by Microsoft and Nokia services.
  • Offers dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) support with dual standby.
  • Powered by 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, alongside 512MB of RAM.
  • Features:  4-inch IPS LCD display with a 480×800 pixel resolution, translating to a pixel density of 233ppi, 3-megapixel rear camera.
  • Supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, AGPS, EDGE, GPRS and 3G connectivity options.
  • Backed by a 1500mAh battery, which can deliver up to 13 hours of talktime and up to 672 hours of standby time on 2G network.
  • Can run 75% Android apps ‘without any modifications’.
  • AOSP doesn’t come with proprietary Google code, thus, Google apps viz. Play Store, Google Maps, etc, will not be available on Nokia X (but apps can be uploaded from third party store (like Microsoft app store).
  • Allows consumers a choice of Android apps along with signature Microsoft offerings from Nokia.
  • Would bundle the Nokia Store for apps, through which consumers will be able to access several third-party app stores viz. 1Mobile Market and SlideME Market for downloading any app.
  • Also, bundled in its own search tool Bing, Here Maps, OneDrive with 10 GB virtual storage space, Skype and Mix Radio services.
  • The apps can be side loaded or moved to the memory card to keep the internal storage free. 

The other two phones of Nokia’s Android smartphone , the Nokia X+ and the Nokia XL, will be available in India within two months.
Note: Nokia X+ offers more memory and storage and Nokia XL packs a 5-inch screen, 5 megapixel rear-facing and 2 megapixel front-facing camera.
