Nobile Crater

Nobile is a lunar impact crater which is located near the moon’s South Pole. It is located to the south of the Scott Crater, on the western edge of Amundsen. Between the South Pole and the Nobile are the smaller craters which are named Faustini and Shoemaker.

It is an eroded crater formation which is almost constantly covered in deep shadows. Sunlight, once in awhile, that enters this crater does so at an angle which is very oblique.

The crater rim is covered by several smaller craters, the most notable of which is a formation about half the diameter of Nobile along the western rim. There are also small craters along the southwestern and northern parts of the rim. The outer wall of Amundsen is located on the east edge and the inner wall. The inner bottom of this crater is somewhat uneven and there are some small craters on the surface.

Nobile was previously known as Scott A before the International Astronomical Union gave it a name.
