No Commission to be charged by Google on its E-Commerce Platform
Google has announced that it will let sellers – both the small retailers and the big corporates – sell products on its e-commerce marketplace product, Google Shopping, without charging any commission to them. This move is expected to counter Amazon which is a big brand already in the e-commerce segment in the world.
The sellers who participate in Buy on Google checkout experience will no longer have to pay the company a commission fee. The company has also allowed retailers to use third-party platforms such as Shopify and Paypal to get on this platform. The initiative will be restricted to the US for the time being but it will be introduced to the international markets by the end of this year and early 2021.
Google has explained that many retailers use the e-commerce marketplace of the company for selling products apart from using it to drive traffic towards their websites.
Amazon and Facebook are also active in this field but both of them charge a commission fee from the sellers who use the services. The announcement has come at a time when the world is facing an unprecedented situation facing a pandemic and it has actually boosted the cause for the e-commerce segment in the whole world.
Though Google is lagging in this arena from Amazon by a huge margin, people do use Google to check product reviews, comparisons and other information and the search engine giant is now planning to utilize this data to promote the ‘Buy on Google’ platform.
