NITI Aayog CEO on Aadhar

Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog has said that Aadhaar has become the substructure for various government welfare schemes. Aadhar, which is issued by UIDAI, has saved more than Rs 2 lakh crore for the government by eliminating duplicate and fake identities. The NITI Aayog CEO has said that Aadhaar is one of the world’s most-successful biometric identity programs.

Which workshop was being attended by the NITI Aayog CEO?

Amitabh Kant was speaking at a workshop on ‘Recent Initiatives for Simplifying Aadhaar usage’ in Delhi. With the help of Aadhar, various government schemes are being implemented across the country. Also, Aadhar ensures faster transfer of benefits without any intermediaries or intervention and has helped save a lot of the government’s money.

How many government schemes are leveraging Aadhar for effective delivery?

Across the nation, 500 State schemes and 315 Central schemes are being leveraged by Aadhaar to ensure effective service delivery.

What is Aadhar?

The Aadhar is a 12 -digit random number that is provided by the UIDAI to residents of India after the competition of a verification process. Any Indian citizen residing in the country, regardless of gender or age, can freely enroll for receiving an Aadhaar number. While enrolling, the person must provide basic biometric and demographic c information. A person can register for Aadhar once and only one Aadhaar thus ensuring uniqueness. The Aadhar number that is generated is resilient and distinct enough to eliminate any form of fake and duplicate identities. The Aadhar can also be used as a form of identification for various government assistance programmes.
