NIT, Technical Institutions Admission Criteria relaxed by HRD Ministry
The Union Human Resources Development Ministry has announced relaxation in the admission criteria for the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and centrally funded technical institutions amid the COVID 19 pandemic. The Central Seat Allocation Board has taken this decision for the concerned organizations.
Details
As per the relaxed criteria, the JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will only need to obtain a passing certificate in the Class XII Examination irrespective of the marks obtained by the students in that examination. Earlier the eligibility criteria were that the students had to score at least 75% in the Class XII Examinations or rank among the top 20 percentile in the examination to get a seat at the NITs and centrally funded technical organizations, apart from qualifying in the JEE Mains Examination.
What is the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB)?
In 2002, the government took the decision to conduct a single examination for the engineering entrance in various colleges across the country as the All India Engineering Entrance Examination. This was done to do away with the multiple numbers of examinations conducted by different engineering institutions. In this regard, the Central Counselling Board was constituted by the government to coordinate admissions in the undergraduate degree programs in engineering, technology and architecture in respect of select candidates till 2012. From 2013 onwards, AIEEE has been named as JEE Mains and the CCB has come to be known as the CSAB.
