Nirmala Sitharaman 34th in Forbes 2019 World’s 100 Most Powerful Women List
The Union Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman has been ranked 34th in the Forbes Top 100 Most Powerful Women in the World list. Nirmala Sitharaman also served as the Defence Minister of India from 3rd September 2017 to 30th May 2019. Born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, She became the first women full-time finance minister of India on 30th May 2019. She is a member of the upper house of the parliament of India, Rajya Sabha from Karnataka since 2014.
HCL Corporation CEO and Executive Director, Roshni Nadar Malhotra have been ranked 54th on the list, and the owner and founder of India’s largest biopharmaceutical firm Biocon, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has been ranked 65th on the list.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel topped the 2019 list, followed by European Central Bank’s President Christine Lagarde and the speaker of the U.S House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi at 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Other notable persons in the ranking- Melinda Gates -6th, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina at 29th, Ivanka Trump at 42nd place, Serena Williams at 81st and Greta Thunberg making the final 100th place in the list.
