NHAI signed MoU with ISRO and NECTAR for use of spatial technologies to monitor national highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) under Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and North East Centre for Technology Application and Research (NECTAR) for use of spatial technology for monitoring and managing National Highways.

Some pilot projects will be conducted by NHAI to find the actual use of satellite data and spatial technology provided by NRSC, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) technology provided by NECTAR. NECTAR uses UAVs for acquiring aerial images for infrastructure planning.

The satellite data and geospatial technologies will provide input in preparation of detailed project reports for highways, widening of roads, prefeasibility status in new alignment and monitoring of roads under construction.

North East Centre for Technology Application and Research (NECTAR)

It is an autonomous society set up under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India at Shillong, Meghalaya. Its objective is promotion of niche frontier technologies available with central scientific institutions.

To assist the north eastern India, NECTAR will strive to develop technological applications for development in areas related to biodiversity concerns, watershed management, horticulture, telemedicine, infrastructure planning & development etc.
