New Malware has affected more than 14% of Indians
Multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider, Kaspersky Lab on Sunday, 12th January 2020 has released a notification according to which more than 14 percent Indians have been affected by a new Trojan application based malware dubbed as ‘Shopper’ which has been using a system icon named ‘ConfigAPKs’ on the victims android devices in order to hide it itself from the user by pretending to be a system application. Before the malware app Shopper is downloaded, it can turn off the Google Play Store safety checks on apps called Google Play Protect and hide’s itself from the app menu of the victim.
According to researchers, the malware application was designed for boosting the ratings of popular shopping android applications by registering the victim social media accounts such as Facebook, Google mail account, etc on popular shopping and entertainment portals such as Alibaba, Likee, Shein, etc that also allows the operation of the malware to leave review on Google Play Store for the application without the knowledge of the victim. The malware application has capabilities that can be explored by attackers to gain further access to the social media accounts of the users.
