Cabinet Approves of 85 New Kendriya Vidyalayas Across India

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has recently approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in India, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and aims to enhance educational facilities for Central Government and Defence employees. Additionally, one existing KV in Shivamogga, Karnataka, will expand to accommodate more students.

Financial Overview

The total investment for these new KVs and the expansion is projected at Rs. 5,872 crore. This amount includes Rs. 2,862 crore for construction and Rs. 3,009 crore for operational costs. The implementation will take place over the next eight years.

Current KV Statistics

Currently, there are 1,256 KVs across India, including three international schools located in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran. Approximately 13.56 lakh students are enrolled in these institutions. The new KVs will provide educational opportunities for around 82,560 additional students.

Employment Opportunities

Each new KV will create employment for 63 individuals. The approval of 85 new KVs, along with the expansion of one, will result in 5,388 new permanent jobs. Furthermore, construction activities will generate additional job opportunities for workers in various sectors.

Kendriya Vidyalayas were established in 1962. Their primary goal is to offer quality education to the children of Central Government and Defence employees. They also serve students in remote areas. The schools maintain a uniform standard of education.
