IIT Ropar Unveils New Bluetooth System

The Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub (AWaDH) at IIT Ropar revealed a new Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Gateway and Node System, which is part of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), funded by the Government of India.

Key Features of the BLE System

The BLE Gateway provides flexible connectivity options, which support 4G, WiFi, and LAN connections. The system can transmit data over distances up to 1 km in line-of-sight. It collects data from multiple nodes, aiding in analysis and decision-making.

Design and Durability

The system is compact and built to withstand harsh weather conditions, which requires minimal wiring, which lowers installation costs. Energy efficiency is a priority, supporting over 100 BLE nodes. The device can receive firmware updates remotely, reducing manual maintenance.

This BLE system is compatible with mobile apps and cloud platforms. It allows easy integration with various sensors. Users can monitor and control devices effectively through these platforms.

Additional Functionalities

The system includes a built-in humidity and temperature sensor, features an external real-time clock and USB charging options. A relay is included for local device control.

In agriculture, the BLE system monitors soil moisture and air quality. This leads to improved farming practices. In logistics, it maintains optimal conditions for perishable goods, reducing spoilage risks.
