Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi
Introduction
The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) is a memorial to Jawaharlal Nehru located at New Delhi. The Museum is responsible for collection of books, newspapers, unpublished references, private papers, photographs, film takes and also translation of important papers relating to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is also responsible for preservation of papers of the national leaders of modern India.
Functions and powers
The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture. The institution was founded just after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964.
The institution is dedicated to the objective of preserving, recollecting and reconstructing the history of the anti-imperialist struggle in India. The Library has an exhaustive collection of published material on numerous aspects of modern and contemporary history. It also possesses an impressive and diverse archival holding regularly updated, expanded and made available for research.
The other important activities of the institute are:
- academic research in the field of modern and contemporary history
- organising lectures and seminars regularly and publishing their deliberations
In March 2010 it launched a digitization project of its archives, under which by June 2011, 867,000 pages of manuscripts and 29,807 photographs were scanned and 500,000 pages uploaded on the digital library website.

It is proposed to take up massive developmental works from its corpus fund, being provided during 2013-14.
