NDTV wins International Press Institute India award for Excellence in Journalism
India’s private news channel NDTV has been awarded International Press Institute India award for excellence in journalism by the India chapter of the Vienna-based International Press Institute. NDTV was awarded for its ‘expose of the conspiracy to scuttle’ the Kathua rape and murder case probe.

A jury of eminent editors headed by Soli Sorabjee, former Attorney General of India considered entries received and unanimously selected NDTV for the prestigious award.
NDTV was awarded for the exposing the conspiracy to scuttle probe into heinous Kathua rape and murder, and a strong expose of political hypocrisy across political spectrum which represented excellence in journalism.
About International Press Institute India award for excellence in Journalism
The annual award was instituted by IPI India in 2003. It recognises and honours best work done by an Indian media organization/ journalist in print, TV, radio and internet mediums in furtherance of public interest, including safeguarding of freedom of press as well as other freedoms like human right.
The award comprises of a trophy, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. The first award for IPI India Excellence in Journalism, 2003 was given to The Indian Express for its reporting of the Gujarat riots and its aftermath. NDTV had also won the award in 2004 for its expose of baby-swapping racket in Hyderabad, and corruption trail of Telgi stamp scam. Karan Thapar, Hindustan Times, Tehelka are among the other awardees.
International Press Institute (IPI) was founded on October 1950, in New York, by a group of editors from 15 countries and has grown into a truly global organisation committed to furtherance of freedom of press. The India chapter of IPI is an active forum of editors, publishers and senior executives of newspapers, news agencies and magazines, all of whom are members of International Press Institute.
