‘CHARAK’ Initiative

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has recently introduced a CSR initiative named ‘CHARAK’, aimed at improving healthcare in the Singrauli region. This program focuses on providing free medical treatment for serious illnesses to economically disadvantaged individuals. The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Coal’s commitment to community welfare and health.

Objective of ‘CHARAK’

The primary goal of ‘CHARAK’ is to offer free treatment for life-threatening diseases, and target residents from Singrauli and Sonbhadra districts whose family income is below Rs. 8 Lakhs annually. This health initiative addresses critical health needs in the community.

The scheme encompasses various serious medical conditions. These include cancer, tuberculosis, HIV, heart disease, organ transplants, severe burns, liver disorders, sudden hearing loss, surgical emergencies, neurological issues, trauma, and other life-threatening diseases.

Treatment Facilities

NCL will provide treatment at its own hospital and partner hospitals across India. This ensures that beneficiaries have access to quality healthcare services. The initiative aims to eliminate geographical barriers to healthcare in the region.

Since its inception, ‘CHARAK’ has already reached approximately 10 lakh individuals. NCL has invested over 1,000 crores in various CSR projects over the past decade. This reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the communities it serves.

Leadership Support

NCL’s CMD, Shri B. Sairam, emphasised the significance of this initiative. He stated that ‘CHARAK’ provides essential healthcare support to those who are unable to afford treatment. The scheme aims to alleviate both financial and emotional burdens on affected families.

The ‘CHARAK’ initiative represents important step towards accessible healthcare in Koylanchal. NCL plans to continue expanding its efforts in community health, ensuring that more individuals receive the necessary medical attention.
