Nationwide Campaign for National Fisheries Digital Platform Registration

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in India is leading a nationwide campaign to enhance registrations on the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP). This campaign runs from February 14 to 22, 2025. It aims to expedite registration approvals and mobilise applications from eligible stakeholders. The initiative is part of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PMMKSSY). This scheme offers various benefits to fishers and fish farmers.

Objectives of the Campaign

  • The primary goal is to formalise the fisheries sector.
  • It seeks to improve access to institutional finance.
  • The campaign will also promote aquaculture insurance.
  • Additionally, it aims to enhance value chain efficiencies and strengthen fish safety and quality assurance systems.

Collaboration and Implementation

  • The campaign is a collaborative effort involving State and Union Territory Fisheries Departments, the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), and Common Service Centers (CSCs).
  • Organised camps will be set up in major fisheries hotspots across the country.
  • This strategy focuses on increasing registration rates and encouraging eligible participants to benefit from PMMKSSY.

Key Components of PMMKSSY

  • PMMKSSY is a Central Sector Sub-scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
  • It has a budget of Rs 6,000 crore for the period from 2023 to 2024.
  • The scheme aims to provide digital identities for small and micro-enterprises in the fisheries sector.
  • It also offers financial assistance and performance grants to enhance productivity.

Benefits of NFDP

  • The NFDP facilitates the registration of fishers, fish farmers, vendors, processors, and microenterprises.
  • It integrates them into formal financial systems and government programs.
  • The platform has already registered over 17 lakh stakeholders.
  • This digital initiative is expected to improve productivity and expand both domestic and global markets.

Financial Support and Incentives

  • The PMMKSSY provides various financial incentives.
  • It offers assistance to 6.4 lakh micro-enterprises and 5,500 fisheries cooperatives.
  • Aquaculture insurance incentives can reach Rs 25,000 per hectare for farms up to 4 hectares.
  • Performance grants can cover up to 25% of total investment or Rs 35 lakh for general categories.
  • For SCs, STs, and women-owned enterprises, the grants can go up to Rs 45 lakh.

Target Beneficiaries

The intended beneficiaries of these initiatives include fishers, fish farmers, fish workers, and vendors involved in the fisheries value chain. It also targets micro and small enterprises such as proprietary firms, partnerships, cooperatives, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Startups engaged in the fisheries sector are also included.
