The Indian government, through the Union Commerce Ministry, has established the National Turmeric Board.

Composition of the Board

The NTB will have a Chairperson appointed by the central government.

A secretary will be appointed to the board by the Commerce Ministry.

Importance of Turmeric in India

India is the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of turmeric globally.
In the year 2022-23, India had over 75% of global turmeric production, with 3.24 lakh hectares under turmeric cultivation.

Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are among the leading states in India for turmeric cultivation.
