National Rural Livelihood Mission: PPEs by Women SHGs
The COVID-19 outbreak has brought in unprecedented health emergency worldwide. This has created huge demand for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and face shields. In order to fulfil these needs, the Self-Help Groups spread all over India have now stepped into the production of PPEs and other medical essentials.
Highlights
Under National Rural Livelihood Mission, there are more than 690 lakh Self Help Groups working all over the country. They have now emerged as community warriors delivering masks, personal protective equipment and affordable sanitizer. The products are being developed according to the guidelines proposed by WHO. Around 900 SHGs from 9 states are involved in the production.
PPE
The SHGs have prepared 5,000 PPE kits so far. This includes aprons, face shields and gowns.
Sanitizers
The Self-Help Groups are developing the sanitizers using alcohol (72%), glycerin (13%), distilled water (13%), basil (2%). They are delivered at affordable prices as well (Rs 30 per litre). So far 1.15 lakh litres of sanitizers have been delivered.
