National Girl Child Day celebrated on 24th January

Since 2008, every year on 24th January, India celebrates National Girl Child Day initiated by the Government of India and by the Ministry of Women and Child Development with an objective to provide opportunities to the girls, spread awareness about the rights of a girl child, to promote the education, health & nutrition of the girl child, gender discrimination faced by them and to highlight the inequalities that they face in their whole lives.

This national observance day for the girl child is a step taken by the Government of India to make the living status of the girl child better by introducing various schemes such as `Save the Girl Child’ scheme, blocking of sex determination during pregnancy, etc.

Various events and campaigns have been organized all over the country by the Government of India to celebrate Girl child day to increase the consciousness among the people regarding girl child in Indian society and to promote equality.
