National Chess Championship
In the 58th Senior National Chess Championship, that started on February 25, 2022, Grandmaster B Adhiban heads a star-studded field. It includes 23 GMs and 30 International Masters.
Highlights
- Former champion Adhiban of Petroleum Sports Promotion Board was given the top billing.
- He is expected to face stiff challenge from likes of fast-rising Arjun Erigaisi, by defending camp Aravindh Chithambaram, S P Sethuraman, Karthikeyan Murali, and M R Lalith Babu.
- This is the first time that 23 GMs and 30 IMs are taking part in national championship.
58th Senior National Chess Championship
The tournament features a total of 184 players. It will be played under Swiss System with rounds within 90 minutes with 30-second increment from first move.
Prizes in the Championship
Cash prizes to the tune of Rs 30 lakh have been set for championship. The winner is set to receive Rs 6 lakh as prize money. The national championship winner will also receive 25 bonus points.
National Chess Championship
It is the annual national chess championship in India. It was established by Andhra State Chess Association in 1955. It was a biannual event, but since 1971 it has been played yearly. Its first edition was held in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh. The women’s championship started in 1974.
